Michael Passmore – Director

Mr. Passmore is a top-performing executive with over 17 years’ experience in leveraged finance, corporate finance and capital markets. With expertise in managing operations for two multi-billion-dollar SEC-registered ‘40 Act mutual fund complexes of open and closed-end funds, with strategies including investments in domestic and foreign equities, long/short equity, leveraged loan, high-yield debt, distressed debt and collateralized loan obligations.

Prior to joining Blue River in August of 2014, Mr. Passmore served as Vice-President and Controller for Goldman Sachs Asset Managements’ $106 billion-dollar SEC-registered ‘40 Act mutual fund complex. While at Goldman, Mr. Passmore managed the preparation and filing of all SEC reporting documents and was responsible for portfolio surveillance, risk management and oversight of third party fund administrators. His core area of competencies at Goldman where in Fund Accounting, Financial and Regulatory Reporting, and Operational Execution.

Prior to joining Goldman Sachs, Mr. Passmore started his career as a fund accountant with Highland Capital Management, LP. While there, his service encompassed a variety of responsibilities within Highland’s multi-billion-dollar SEC-registered ‘40 Act mutual fund complex of open and closed-end funds. Mr. Passmore was primarily responsible for managing operations, facilitating the investment committee and monitoring structured finance transactions containing derivative swaps with various counterparties, including evaluating credit enhancements, and index modeling results. Mr. Passmore managed several leverage facilities covering a billion-dollar commitment in senior secured credit with various banks, including managing prime-brokerage relationships covering $650 million dollars in assets with various prime-brokers. Mr. Passmore was also responsible for portfolio analysis and investment reporting, as well as the preparation and filing of all SEC reporting documents.

Before leaving Highland in 2012 as a Senior Retail Fund Analyst and Assistant Treasurer/Controller to the ‘40 Act mutual fund complex he was responsible for supporting business development efforts within the ‘40 Act mutual fund complex by focusing on identifying and closing new business opportunities as well as growing existing relationships. In 2010, Michael facilitated the acquisition of GE Asset Management’s $2 billion ‘40 Act fund complex, which consisted of 16 funds. Michael’s core area of competencies at Highland where in Fund Accounting and Operations, Financial and Regulatory Reporting, Investment and Asset Allocation, including Portfolio Management, Financial Modeling and Valuations and Bank Negotiations and Relations.

Mr. Passmore graduated with highest honors from Texas Christian University receiving a BBA in Finance and Accounting from the Neeley School of Business. He also holds a Masters in Economics and Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science.
